Description

AMOGUS!

A dream I realized back in February 2019 when I had a HP Pavilion X360 laptop that had a i3-8130U with integrated graphics @2.3 GHz, and even before a HP desktop with a AMD FX CPU that was also integrated. Sad times.

After a planning time of almost 20-21 months and finishing with high school and staying safe in the midst of COVID, said dream became a reality. All parts were new, except for the GPU (acquired from older sis' bf's old GTX 1060 6 GB when he got a 3060) and the HDDs, salvaged from old HP desktops I had from 2012-2013 when I was a lot younger and formatted. Though I built this only in December, the GPU crisis kept me off the boots until late January.

Cooler, mobo, and primary monitor are MSI and my RAM sticks, keyboard, and headphones Corsair (wow bro get more creative!) 1060's good I do admit, but maybe once the GPU stocks get themselves straight (i hope to god they do,) I'll consider upgrading.

I use this primarily to take on games such as Siege, Bioshock Infinite, L4D2, the Total War franchise, War Thunder, and some trolling on Roblox. I also do some casual pixel art after when I got a 4K as Fuze and literally crying because I couldn't find the last defender (and won the round though.)

Note: BIOS information is from 03/09 instead of 12/20 due to lack of GPU at the time

Photo quality is grainy too.

edit: 12/17/21: mobo bricked, replaced with a Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (5000-ready out of the box)

handed off 3600 to younger sis, brought 5600X in lieu and a living charm.

Part Reviews

CPU

Does as intended. Though it can get a bit hotter than what I want it to be, it gets the job done.

CPU Cooler

Looks can kill yes, and I can't hear the pump at all whether or not I'm in-game. One thing that I mourn about is the fact that it's not mounted upwards, but rather forwards due to how my case is set up. Had it yet for me to have a different brand like Corsair, it would be a different scenario. The worst part imo would be the installation as the screws holding the clasps on the CPU mount would often fall out during installation.

The RGB fans are also pleasing as you can get. Thermal paste's okay, but I intend to get Arctic to wipe away the old one.

Motherboard

Whole lotta fan headers, then again, cooling is priority. One thing I abhor would be Dragon Center and the fact that the bottom lighting, though appealing, is almost non-visible if you have a bulky GPU like a 3070-80 idk.

Memory

Colors are to die for, gets the job done, flip on XMP, and then you are all set.

Storage

Boot up speeds are a dream. Though not a NVME, it's enough.

Storage

Almost 10 years old at this point and formatted, this has yet to fail me, though the age may leave some concern.

Video Card

While dated of course and with some of the RGB lighting out, it's effective in its role. May replace with a RTX 30-series once they get back in stock (if they ever smh, I hate the gpu shortage of 2020-21)

Case

User-friendly for a first timer, but like stated on my AIO review, I can't mount this on the top sadly, though I compensated it with a 120mm fan that was up front upwards taking out the hot air. The LED strips are also neat, too.

Power Supply

Has yet to blow up on me. It felt small on my hands when I was installing, but it delivers the juice.

Wireless Network Adapter

Had sitting at home and decided to put good use to it. It does as intended and it hasn't cut out on me when I'm in a match.

Monitor

60 hz in a era of 144s or even 240s may sound outdated, but it's enough to be used as a secondary monitor configurated in a vertical setup, which is useful on Discord scrolling through server chats.

Monitor

Though pricy, 144 hz , a metal stand, and a large display seals the deal.

Keyboard

Had for over a year (February 2020) and hasn't failed me at all. I probably may need to clean the keys too. The media keys are useful when you want to skip a song on Spotify that you oh-so don't like and the home keylock is useful when you accidently click the Windows button.

Headphones

The wires on the headset began to rip up from age even though this was new from Best Buy back in May for my birthday, but it still gets the job done. I may intend to get a Steelseries or a Corsair-type headset in the future.

You waiting for a 30-series card too? Also nice job with Fuze in r6. Remember, Fuze can only ace by getting 6 kills. One of those kills has to be the hostage or a teammate.

Nice build, nice pfp, nice name for the build, although i think naming it peregrin_falconook would also be pretty cool

Damn good build. Great choices on parts all around the board. Just the power supply could use a future upgrade. Maybe a 750 watt 80+ Gold. Your call. But great build.
